PhotonPay has secured an Electronic Money Institution licence from the UK Financial Conduct Authority, the company announced on October 16.
The authorization allows it to issue electronic money and provide regulated UK payment services within the scope of its licence. PhotonPay said the approval strengthens its local financial foundation and supports broader payment and treasury services for internationally active businesses.
Its platform covers global accounts, collections, payouts, foreign exchange, cards and embedded finance. The company aims to consolidate operations that businesses otherwise manage across multiple institutions, currencies and payment systems.
“Building a global payment operating system requires strong local regulatory foundations,” said JP, PhotonPay’s Global Head of Compliance.
PhotonPay said it holds nearly 30 payment licences and related regulatory authorizations worldwide. It plans further regulatory expansion and connections with banks and payment networks. Service availability remains dependent on jurisdiction, customer eligibility and applicable permissions.
Digital Trade Outlook’s View
The licence provides a regulatory foundation; the practical test is the UK service customers can actually access. Businesses should examine supported currencies, local account arrangements, safeguarding terms and payout coverage. Those details determine whether consolidation simplifies treasury operations or merely adds another provider.
