Mastercard has announced Stablecoin Security, an API-based risk intelligence service combining payment data with blockchain analytics. Unveiled at Money20/20 USA on October 19, it launches first in North America, with worldwide commercial availability expected in 2027.
The service assesses transaction context, funding origins, restricted-party exposure and scam indicators, including before funds move on-chain. It provides a pre-completion risk score and integrates with existing fraud, compliance and case-management systems.
Initial partners are Borderless.xyz and Keyrails. Borderless connects institutions to licensed providers across more than 113 countries and 72 currencies; Keyrails supports high-value cross-border trade payments, particularly in emerging markets. Mastercard also plans expansion through BVNK, which it says it acquired in August 2026.
Mastercard cited research covering 593 million stablecoin transfer events across 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025: nearly 60% involved complex, multi-step movements.
“Global trade needs trusted infrastructure for stablecoin settlement,” said Rajpal Khangura, Keyrails’ co-founder and chief compliance officer.
Digital Trade Outlook’s View
Faster settlement does not remove the need to understand who funds a payment and where it ends up. Connecting bank-side signals with wallet activity could improve screening, but institutions will still need clear responsibility for alerts, reviews and rejected transactions across providers.
